Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to everything you want to know about Kaloria

Getting Started

No account required! Kaloria works immediately after download. All your data is stored locally on your device. Optional account features (like cloud sync) may be added in the future.
The onboarding asks for your name, age, gender, current weight, goal weight, height, and activity level. This information helps Kaloria calculate your personalized calorie and macro goals. It takes about 2 minutes.
Absolutely! Go to Profile → Edit Profile to change your weight goal, target weight, activity level, or any other settings. Your calorie goal will recalculate automatically.
Kaloria is available for iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android devices. You can download it from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Features & AI Recognition

Kaloria achieves industry-leading accuracy, typically within 10-15% of actual values for common foods and standard portions. This is comparable to or better than manual food logging, where people often underestimate portions by 20-50%. The AI is trained on millions of food images and continuously improves.
Yes! Kaloria excels at recognizing restaurant meals, popular menu items, and complex homemade dishes. The AI can identify multiple ingredients in a single photo and works with cuisines from around the world.
Absolutely! Kaloria can identify multiple foods in a single photo. For example, chicken with rice and broccoli—the AI detects all three components and calculates nutrition for each. Just make sure all items are clearly visible.
No worries! Use the refine feature to give the AI more context, adjust the serving size dial, or edit nutrition values directly after adding to your journal. You have full control to ensure accuracy.
You need internet for AI analysis of new photos and Kalo AI chat. However, your food journal, recent meals, weight/water tracking, and analytics all work offline. Previously scanned foods can be re-added without internet.
Point your camera at any UPC or EAN barcode on packaged foods. Kaloria automatically detects it and pulls exact nutrition data from global databases (OpenFoodFacts). This is even more accurate than photo scanning for labeled products!
Kalo is your personal AI nutrition coach built into Kaloria. It has access to your last 7 days of meals and provides personalized advice, meal suggestions, and motivation. You can choose from 4 personality styles: Fitness Bro, Roaster, Zen Master, or Science Nerd.

Premium & Billing

Premium unlocks: ✓ Unlimited AI food scans ✓ Unlimited Kalo AI messages ✓ Advanced analytics ✓ Priority support ✓ Ad-free experience ✓ Export features (coming soon) ✓ Cloud sync (coming soon)
Premium pricing varies by region and subscription plan (monthly, annual, or lifetime). Check the app's paywall screen for current pricing in your currency. We often offer promotional pricing for new users!
Yes! Most subscription plans include a 7-day free trial. You can try all Premium features with no credit card required. Cancel anytime during the trial without being charged.
Subscriptions are managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android), not within Kaloria. Go to your device Settings → Subscriptions → Kaloria → Cancel. You'll keep Premium access until the current billing period ends.
Yes! Go to Profile → Restore Purchases in Kaloria. Sign in with the same Apple ID or Google account you used for the original purchase, and your Premium features will be restored automatically.
During onboarding, there's a promo code screen where you can enter referral codes. If you've already completed onboarding, check the paywall screen for a promo code option. Valid codes give you special pricing or free Premium access!

Accuracy & Tracking

The AI analyzes visual cues in your photo—plate size, food depth, density, and volume—to estimate portions. It's trained on thousands of annotated images with known weights. While not perfect, it's as accurate as most people's manual estimates!
Only if you want to! Kaloria is designed to eliminate the need for food scales. For most people, AI estimations are accurate enough to reach their goals. If you do weigh food, you can manually edit the exact values in the journal.
The AI tries to account for cooking methods (fried vs. grilled), but if you know there's extra oil or butter, use the refine feature to mention it (e.g., "cooked with 2 tbsp olive oil"). This helps the AI adjust calories accordingly.
Currently, Kaloria focuses on calories and macronutrients (protein, carbs, fat). Micronutrient tracking is on our roadmap for future updates!
Yes! After logging a meal, tap it in your journal, then tap the edit icon next to the nutrition rings. You can manually enter exact values from the nutrition label for 100% accuracy.
No problem! You can add meals to any past date by navigating to that day in your journal and adding food normally. Or use manual text entry to describe what you ate based on memory.

Privacy & Data Security

Your food photos are stored securely on your device and in your private Kaloria account. They are NEVER shared publicly, sold to third parties, or used for anything other than providing your AI analysis and displaying in your personal journal. You own your photos and can delete them anytime.
Kaloria collects only what's necessary to provide the service: your profile information (age, weight, goals), food journal entries, photos for AI analysis, and app usage analytics to improve the experience. We never sell your personal data.
Yes. Go to Profile → Settings → Delete Account to permanently remove all your data from Kaloria's servers. You can also delete individual meals from your journal anytime.
Yes, Kaloria complies with GDPR and other data protection regulations. You have the right to access, export, and delete your personal data at any time.

Technical & Troubleshooting

First, check camera permissions: Settings → Privacy → Camera → Kaloria (ON). If permissions are correct, force close the app and restart. Make sure no other app is currently using the camera. Still having issues? Restart your device.
Check your internet connection—AI analysis requires internet. Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data. Close and reopen the app. If it persists, the servers might be experiencing high traffic—try again in a few minutes or use manual entry as an alternative.
Scan limits reset 24 hours after your FIRST scan of the day, not at midnight. For example, if your first scan was at 9 AM, your scans renew at 9 AM the next day. Check the in-app timer for exact reset time.
This is usually a memory issue. Try: 1) Restart the app, 2) Free up device storage space, 3) Update to the latest version of Kaloria, 4) Restart your device. If it continues, contact support with your device model and OS version.
Pull down on the journal screen to refresh. Check that you're viewing the correct date (not yesterday or tomorrow). Ensure all meals are logged under the right meal type. If numbers still seem off, try force-closing and reopening the app.
Check your internet connection—Kalo requires internet to respond. Verify you haven't hit your daily message limit (free users get 10 per day). If you're Premium with internet and still having issues, try closing and reopening the chat screen.

Goals & Calculations

Kaloria uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation to calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) based on age, gender, weight, and height. Then it multiplies by your activity level to get TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). For weight loss, it subtracts a calorie deficit; for weight gain, it adds a surplus.
Yes! While Kaloria calculates recommended goals, you can manually override them in Profile → Edit Goals. Enter your own calorie target and adjust protein/carbs/fat percentages or gram amounts.
Aim for 0.5-1 kg (1-2 lbs) per week for sustainable, healthy weight loss. Faster loss is often water weight or muscle loss, which isn't ideal. Slow and steady wins the race and is much easier to maintain!
Weight loss isn't linear! Factors: water retention, hormones, muscle gain, sodium intake, and sleep all affect the scale. Look at 2-4 week trends, not daily changes. Also ensure you're tracking EVERYTHING—forgotten oils, bites, and drinks add up. Ask Kalo AI to review your journal for insights!
This depends on your activity level setting. If you set "Very Active" in your profile, exercise is already factored into your calorie goal. If "Sedentary," you might eat back 50-75% of exercise calories. Be conservative—most devices overestimate calories burned!

General Usage

Absolutely! During onboarding, select "Gain Weight" as your goal. Kaloria will calculate a calorie surplus and high-protein macros perfect for muscle building. Track your meals the same way, just with higher targets!
Yes! Kaloria is available in 50+ languages and works worldwide. The AI recognizes foods from all cuisines and cultures. Change your language in Profile → Settings → Language.
Currently, Kaloria is a standalone app. Integration with Apple Health, Google Fit, and other fitness platforms is on our roadmap for future updates!
Yes! Kaloria tracks all food types—vegan, vegetarian, keto, gluten-free, etc. The AI recognizes foods regardless of dietary preferences. You can use Kalo AI to get advice specific to your dietary needs.
Email us at info@kaloria.ai or use the feedback form in Profile → Help & Support → Contact Us. We typically respond within 24-48 hours.
Currently, Kaloria is mobile-only (iOS and Android). A web dashboard for viewing your journal and analytics from a desktop is being considered for future development!
